Our Little Shop

To facilitate and compliment our Waldorf curriculum and educational philosophy, Acorn Hill operates a small store during school hours in the office. We sell arts & crafts supplies and natural or handcrafted items similar to those used in the classroom; and books on parenting, child development, Waldorf education, anthroposophy, crafts, festivals, simple picture books, and fairy tales. The items we stock are primarily made of natural materials, are aesthetically pleasing, are devoid of commercial characters or synthetic media, and promote a healthy sense of fair play and morality.

A selection of handcrafted items like carved animals, tree blocks, marbles, jump rope, puzzles, small dolls, and other toys encourage creative and imitative play, develop concentration, and foster physical coordination. Other wholesome items for gifts and celebrations are available with a special emphasis on seasonal offerings. We carry dress-up and silks for imaginary play; a variety of musical and rhythmical toys for artistic exploration; and baking, gardening, and housekeeping items to keep little hands busy.

For adults, in addition to our art supplies and books, we have a small assortment of beeswax candles and cards for seasonal festivals, natural products for your body and the home; quality gifts for infants; and hand-dyed wool felt, silks, yarns, and other materials for crafts and doll making.

The sales of these products assist and encourage our parents and children to continue to embrace Waldorf values and to guard against sensory or media overload in their homes. The Little Shop plays an important role in the community while providing Acorn Hill with a small additional source of revenue to help offset our operating expenses.
